Fallon resident dies in crash on U.S. 50 east of Fernley

A Fallon resident died Friday afternoon as a result of a two-car crash on U.S. Highway 50 Alternate east of Fernley.

The Nevada Highway Patrol identified the driver as 67-year-old Hector Luis Reyes. He died from his injuries at an area hospital.

The NHP said troopers were dispatched at 4:09 p.m. to a serious injury crash at the intersection with Desert Rose involving two vehicles.

Preliminary investigation shows a silver 2009 Cadillac SUV was traveling northbound on Desert Rose approaching the intersection with U.S. Highway 50A preparing to make a left turn. A blue 1990 Dodge sedan driven by Reyes was traveling eastbound on the highway in the right-hand travel lane approaching the intersection with Desert Rose. The SUV proceeded onto the highway to make the left turn, striking the front of the Dodge sedan. The Dodge was redirected in a northeasterly direction and came to rest blocking the right-hand lane and right shoulder of the westbound lanes. The Cadillac came to rest in the eastbound right-hand lane.

The NHP is seeking additional witnesses to this crash. In a different wreck on Thursday, a two-vehicle crash south of Fallon involved two commercial vehicles. According to the Fallon NHP office, a city of Fallon garbage truck and an 18-wheeler with an unloaded flatbed trailer were traveling south on U.S. Highway 95.

The NHP said the Carey Transport vehicle slowed to turn, and the driver of the other vehicle didn’t slow to avoid a collision.

No injuries were reported.

The NHP said the driver of the city vehicle was cited for failure to decrease speed.
