All kinds of weather: Overland passengers from Utah and the desert were treated to an unusual variety of climate changes. They came parched and weary from the transit and then at the Truckee were greeted by a heavy rain and hail. On the summit they had a respectable snow storm and then they entered upon a climate that received unqualified praise.

All sorts: A horse attached to an Italian’s milk wagon kicked up a rumpus on Musser street, but did no other damage than to tear his harness and kick a little paint off the red wagon.

The road to Swift’s springs is very dusty and that portion north of Generals Clarke’s residence is sadly in need of sprinkling. The houses along the road are white with alkali dust.

American flag: The more the world sees of the American flag the better it is liked. Let it float from every public building every day.

Boys want a band stand: The Carson band has progressed to the point where it is now able to give concerts. There are many vacant lots along main streets where a stand could be erected without interfering with any one, and the expense would be very slight.

Greater Carson Club: A number of important matters were taken up including the installation of needed conveniences at the free camping grounds such as extending water pipes and erection additional out-houses.

Good chance: A good opportunity is offered to buy a house and lot situated in the rear of the Catholic Church. Household furniture for sale with it — plenty of good water, shade trees and a perfect title. Particulars learned from Jacob Klein at the Carson Brewery.

Insane or drunk? Charles Wagner, a German beer brewer, had been working in Klein’s brewery and called at the Stationhouse asking Sheriff Hill to lock him up. He imagined that there were several men after him who wished to take his life. He was put behind bars and then began to sing German songs and acted altogether in an abnormally happy manner. He is either insane or drunk.

Sugar: Claus Spreckles’ new sugar refinery will be opened in Philadelphia, Pa. It will start up with a capacity of 4,000,000 pounds of sugar a day.

Advertisement: “Lake Theater — ‘Get the Habit’ — under new management, 5 reels motion pictures, 2 illustrated songs, Candy Matinee Saturday at 2 p.m. Adults, 10 cents. Children, 5 cents. With every ticket a BAG OF CANDY. Bring all the children.”

Personal notes: Mrs. Hal Mighels is visiting friends in San Francisco.

Harold Royce drove over the mountain from Oakland, California in a small auto, making the trip in about eleven hours.

C. V. Egglestone, who has been here promoting the big sanitarium at Steamboat springs, will leave for a two-week visit to California.

Women’s rights: The Ohio Legislature has been infringing on women’s rights. They passed a law prohibiting the marriage of first cousins and of girls under sixteen. Also, any young lady under twenty-one years of age, without consent of her parents, shall not be valid.

All sorts: Mr. Thomas Beer of Empire states he will put the road leading to Empire, along the line of the railroad, in splendid condition for driving and speeding fast teams and have it well sprinkled.

Mrs. Senator Gibson of Gold Hill with her nieces and nephew is at the Ormsby and will go to Lake Tahoe. The diphtheria has broken out in Gold Hill and she is taking the children out of harm’s way.

All sorts: Night before last a beautiful meteor flashed across the heavens from the West toward the East, lighting up the whole sky.

All sorts: Born to the wife of J. F. Mowry, a daughter.

High graders were caught in the Mohawk mine at Goldfield and two were convicted.

Architect Ferris was in the city on business at the state capitol.

Striking telephone girls: The girls serving the Bell Telephone company refused to return to their former positions. Only three operators at the switchboard are providing the best service possible. As it stands, both sides are determined to fight it out.

Up into the wild blue yonder: A $100,000 red, white and black whirly-bird is missing from Sonora Aviation facility near the Carson City Airport. It is owned by Ed Court of Lake Tahoe Helicopters and based at the aviation facility. Court was awarded the contract for providing a stand-by fire-fighting helicopter for the Bureau of Land Management.
