Fallon’s Avery Strasdin was named as one of the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association and One Nevada Credit Union's Top Ten Student-Athletes for Northern Nevada.

Strasdin graduated last month and will continue his education at Adams State University in Alamosa, Colo., where he will also play basketball.

In a strange year of high school athletics because of the pandemic, Strasdin and his teammates didn’t get a chance to defend their state basketball title after the winter season was canceled.

The three-sport star, though, started at quarterback every game for Brooke Hill’s football team, leading the Greenwave to an undefeated season and Northern 3A East title. In the spring, Strasdin completed the trifecta on the diamond. The left-handed hitter guided Fallon to a league championship after the
Greenwave came back several times in the 3A East tournament to defeat Dayton.

This year’s honor for the high school continues a streak of nine years with Tommy McCormick and Ashby Trotter being named to the Top Ten last year. Cady Cordes was named a recipient in 2013, followed by Erik Endacott (2014), Ali Tedford (2015), Tristen Thomson (2016), Whitney Skabelund (2017), Faith
Cornmesser (2018) and Sean McCormick (2019).

In all, 15 Fallon student-athletes have received the NIAA award. Tristin Adams was the school’s first recipient in 2003 followed by Reece Jones (2004), James Stubbs (2006) and Katherine Withers (2009).
