A California couple was arrested on multiple charges Tuesday night after video footage at an apartment building at 900 Saliman showed them prying open the rear of the building’s mailboxes complex and taking all the mail from 23 apartment mailboxes.
The robbery occurred at 1:26 a.m. Monday.
Ryan Pritchett, 29, and Vanessa Martinez, 26, were each charged with 23 counts of petit larceny and held on $5,750 bail apiece.
But tampering with a mailbox is a federal crime so the arrest report was forwarded to the U.S. Postal Service.
At the federal level, stealing from a mailbox is punishable by up to five years in prison for each count and $250,000 in fines.
Postal inspectors are expected to place a hold on the two while they review the video evidence in the case.
