Dayton’s Tyler Stolfich hurled a no-hitter in the first game of a baseball doubleheader Saturday morning against Fallon, and then he had a hand in the Dust Devil’s second win with the game-winning hit.

The Dust Devils scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to break open a close game for a 5-0 win, and Stolfich’s key hit in the second game capped a modest rally to nip the Greenwave, 4-3.

Stolfich improved his record to 5-0 and threw 81 pitches against Fallon.

Dayton leads the East division with a 13-4 record followed by Fernley at 10-6 and Fallon 8-7. Playoff games begin Friday in Winnemucca. Dayton has a bye, and Fallon plays Spring Creek at 1 p.m. with the winner playing Fernley on Saturday at 9 a.m. Dayton will play the winner of the Elko-Lowry game at 11:30 a.m., also on Saturday.

After retiring the side in both the first and second innings, Stolfich received all the runs he would need to win the game. Dayton took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on Sean Kinney’s pop-fly single.

The Dust Devils knocked on Fallon’s door in the third inning, but to no avail. Sean Kinney singled as Dayton loaded the bases. Broc Strong ended the inning with a fly ball to left field.

Both teams retired quietly in the fourth inning. Dayton took a 2-0 lead in the fifth inning when Sumsion scored on an error. In the sixth, Trevor Austin reached first base when he was hit by a pitch, and Brady Alves bunted into a double play.

Dayton gave Stolfich more breathing room with a three-run sixth inning. The Dust Devils scored on two wild pitches, and Ethan Callan scored on a wild pitch.

Dayton completed the sweep with a 4-3 win in the second game.

Trailing by two runs going into the seventh inning, Dayton rallied for the one-run win.

Jacob Moore doubled to open the inning, and Caleb Sumsion singled. Robbie Harrison hit a single to left field to tie the game. Stolfich fell behind 0-2 
before hitting a single.

Fallon had taken a 1-0 lead in the second inning. With one out Austin singled, and Alves walked. Cooper Lee popped up for a single to drive in a run.
Stolfich singled in a run, and Harrison hit a sacrifice fly as Dayton grabbed a 2-1 lead in the fifth inning. Fallon tied the game in the sixth on Cooper’s single, and Towne’s RBI in the top of the seventh pushed Fallon out front, 3-2.

Dayton nips Wave in Fallon
Dayton scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning Wednesday to cap a come-from-behind 7-6 win against Fallon in a Northern 3A East baseball game at the Edward Arciniega Athletic Complex.

Francisco Tapia entered the game in relief for the Greenwave with one out in the seventh. Trailing by a run, the visiting Dust Devils tied the game on Tyler Stolfich’s RBI line-drive single to left field. Tapia struck out the next batter, but an error allowed Stolfich to advance to third. On a 2-2 pitch, Broc Strong singled to left field.

Stolfich entered the game in relief with one out in the home half of the seventh inning and recorded a ground out and strike out to preserve the win.
The Greenwave jumped on Dayton for three runs in the bottom of the second inning after Steve Moon hit an inside-the-park home run deep to center field to clear the bases.

In the top of the fourth, the Dust Devils jumped on Fallon for five runs.

Stolfich doubled home a run to cut Fallon’s lead to 3-1. Pitcher Trevor Austin loaded the bases, and Carter Shuck hit a sacrifice fly to cut the lead to a run. An infield error tied the game. Jacob Moore doubled in the go-ahead run and eventually scored on an error.

Fallon responded in the bottom of the fourth inning. Isaiah Diaz hit an RBI single to score Austin opened the inning with a double. Moon ripped in his fourth run of the game to tie the score at 5. Matt Davis lifted a sacrifice fly to give Fallon a 6-5 lead.
