Marla Morris, Executive Director of Austin’s House will be the guest speaker at the next Rotary Club of Carson City lunch meeting. The meeting takes place on Tuesday, February 1st at noon in the Brewery Arts Centers Grand Ballroom. The public is invited to attend.

Austin’s House is an emergency shelter for children who have been removed from their homes due to abuse, neglect or maltreatment when there are no relatives or foster homes available. It opened in 2007 and since then has served over 500 children from all over rural Nevada. Morris was named Executive Director in 2018.

“I really enjoy seeing the impact we have on children, even if it’s just a short period of time,” Morris said. “While children are at Austin’s House, they are safe and get to experience what just being a kid is like without additional stress and trauma.”

Austin’s house is the only shelter of its type in Rural Nevada. Children from birth to 18 are welcome at the shelter. Some children need to stay for weeks or months until a more permanent home can be located. While there the kids receive healthy meals, schooling and education help as well as doctor and dental visits.
