Youth Theatre Carson City is presenting “Matilda: The Musical, Jr.” this weekend and next in the Bob Boldrick Theatre at the Carson City Community Center.
Matilda is a little girl with astonishing wit, intelligence, and psychokinetic powers. She’s unloved by her cruel parents but impresses her schoolteacher, the highly loveable Miss Honey. Over the course of her first term at school, Matilda and Miss Honey have a profound effect on each other’s lives, as Miss Honey begins not only to recognize but also appreciate Matilda’s extraordinary personality. Matilda’s school life isn’t completely smooth sailing, however - the school’s mean headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, hates children and just loves thinking up new punishments for those who don’t abide by her rules. But Matilda has courage and cleverness in equal amounts, and could be her classmates’ saving grace!
Matilda features the talents of over 65 local youth grades K-12, both onstage and off.
Leading the cast are Poppy Hebb, 8, and Aven McColl, 11, as Matilda; Camilla Beckwith, 18, and Parker Schmid, 15, as Miss Agatha Trunchbull; and Neo Harness, 16, and Lilliahna McColl, 15, as Miss Honey. Also featured are Anuhea Azevedo and Hannah Walker as Mrs. Wormwood, Emma Cavner as Mr. Wormwood, and a host of colorful characters bringing Roald Dahl’s magical world to life.
“I am so proud of all the hard work our cast and crew have put into bringing this show to life,” said Andie Wilkerson, artistic director of Youth Theatre Carson City and Staging Director/Choreographer of Matilda, Jr. “Each and every cast member shines on the stage, and I cannot wait to share their incredible performances with our audiences.”
