Greenwave athletes compete in big Reed-Sparks meet

The Greenwave track and field team competed at the two-day Reed-Sparks Rotary Invitational last weekend when the boys finished 16th out of 23 teams in the varsity division and 13th out of 18 in the frosh/soph division.

Fallon is off this weekend (spring break) and will be back in action April 14-15 in Carson City.

The following are Fallon’s top-10 finishes and leading personal and season bests from the Rotary Invitational.


Sprints

Junior Max McCoy scored a pair of top-eight finishes by taking fifth in the 40-yard dash with a time of 5.02 seconds and seventh in the 100-meter at 11.72. He had a personal best 11.64 in the 100 trials, finishing fifth, and personal best 24.38 in the 200 to finish 10th.

Junior Braden Hendrix had a personal best 12.51 in the 100, and senior William Brim-Klein had a personal best 54.53 in the 400.

Freshman Cohen Wright ran a personal best 13.37 in the 100 frosh/soph, and all frosh/soph runners in the 200 and 400 had personal bests.

Sophomore Edwin Ugalde finished 13th in the 200 in 25.77, followed by freshmen Wyatt Dixon and Joe Dahl at 29.16 and 29.42, and sophomore Henry Vergara in 31.60. In the 400, Ugalde ran the race in 55.91 followed by freshman Barry Mitchell in 64.16, Dixon in 64.46 and Dahl in 64.47.

For the girls, senior Madix Wehe and sophomore Jacquelinne Vilchiz-Mondragon each had personal bests in the 100 at 15.75 and 16.69. Vilchiz-Mondragon also had a personal best 35.39 in the 200, and Wehe turned her in best run in the 400 at 73.92.


Distance

Senior Yahir Ugalde ran the 3200 in 11:38.28, a personal best, and in the frosh/soph division, sophomore Uriel Romero-Montes ran a personal best 5:21.44 to finish fifth in the 1600.


Hurdles

Brim-Klein finished fifth in the 300 hurdles with a personal best 44.44.


Relays

The 4x400 boys relay team of juniors Jaiden McFadden, McCoy and Hendrix, and freshman Bransyn Wright finished seventh in 47.06. The distance-medley relay team of junior Isaiah Dart, and sophomores Manuel DeSantiago, Henry Vergara and Tyler Huckaby finished sixth in 14:19.77.


Throws 

In the shot put, Mitchell led Fallon with a personal best of 33 feet, 3 inches. Also with personal bests were freshman Ashton McCourtney at 29-3.5 and sophomores Alec Lecker and Brody Hughes with throws of 28-9.5 and 26-8.25. In the discus, freshman Justin McArthur had a personal best 70-5 as did McCourtney, who threw for 56-6.

Freshman Jenna Steffens had a personal best 21-3.25 in the shot put.


Jumps

Hendrix had a personal best of 35-8.5 in the triple jump. Junior Jessalyn Lewis beat her season record in the long jump with a mark of 12-10.


Pole vault

Freshman Cohen Wright finished with a personal best of 7 feet.
