The show opens its doors at the Fallon Convention Center at 10 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. The show will stay open until 4 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. on Sunday.

According to publicist Marcia Vinson, the Churchill County High School Honor Society will have a car wash at the home show, and she said a raffle will be held for beautiful, crafted outdoor furniture.

“We have many new vendors,” Vinson pointed out.

The Fallon Soroptimists take pride in presenting this annual show, said incoming President Katelin Felicetti who doesn’t take office until July.

Felicetti recently spoke at the Fallon Rotary Club’s weekly luncheon and explained the organization’s community involvement. She said Soroptimist is a coined Latin phrase meaning Best for Women, and about 72,000 members from around the world belong to thousands of Soroptimist clubs. Their mission is, “Soroptimist is a global volunteer organization that provides women and girls with access to the education and training they need to achieve economic empowerment.”

“Soroptimists enable the betterment of women,” Felicetti added.

Felicetti explained the overall international, national and local backgrounds of Soroptimists. She said the Fallon club received its charter in 1953 with 25 members.

“We’re celebrating our 70th year,” Felicetti noted. “We welcome women who want to help women.”

Felicetti also introduced Vinson at the Rotary meeting. Vinson is the longest serving member of the Soroptimist International of Fallon with 35 years. Part of Felicetti’s presentation to Rotary focused on the Soroptimists’ various missions.

“Who do we support?” she rhetorically asked.

Felicetti said Soroptimists help women with their education or work training, and the club provides several scholarships to high school seniors. Other programs she mentioned include programs and awards such as the Ruby Award for women.

“The Ruby Award is awarded to women who do a lot of work in the community,” Felicetti said, adding the recipient gives a donation to a volunteer organization of their choice.

The Fallon Soroptimists fund another local scholarship named for Frances Aguirre. The Live Your Dream is an award for women who provide the primary financial support for their families. The Live Your Dream Award gives women the resources they need to improve their education, skills and employment prospects.

During the 2021-22 school year, Felicetti said the Fallon Soroptimists have been able to provide $24,470 in awards and scholarships.

Felicetti said Dream It Be It is a program for high school girls and gives them the tools they need to complete their education and career goals.

“We’re able to give back to the community,” Felicetti said.

Not only do the Fallon Soroptimists present awards and scholarships, Felicetti said the organization sponsors an adult prom, a shed sale and quarter auction.

Felicetti said the community loves the adult prom.

“It’s like going back to your high school days and getting all dressed up,” she said.
