Douglas High basketball had four members of its boys team and four players on its girls squad earn Class 5A North all-region honors for this season.

The Tiger boys capped their best two-season stretch in 44 years after making back-to-back state tournament appearances for the first time since 1978-79.

Meanwhile, the Douglas High girls were a few moments away from punching their ticket to the state tournament before falling in the Class 5A North regional semifinal.

On the boys side, senior JC Reid and Caden Thacker led the way with first team selections.

Reid was a consistent presence, not only on the outside, but also on the defensive end of the floor.

The senior averaged 10.2 points per game while shooting 34 percent from the field. Reid also had 3.4 assists per game, 3.3 rebounds and 1.8 steals per contest.

Last season, Reid was selected to the all-region second team.

As a sophomore, Thacker’s game took a massive leap from his freshman campaign.

A 5-10 guard, Thacker shot 44 percent from the floor. Thacker posted a clip of 10.4 points per contest while also averaging two rebounds and two assists per game to go along with 1.6 steals per outing.

On the girls side, it was junior Aleeah Weaver who secured a first team all-region selection.

Weaver took over down the stretch run of the season, scoring at least 10 points in six of the Tigers’ final eight games.

The junior guard posted nine points per contest while putting together 2.6 rebounds per game along with an assist and a steal.

Second team and honorable mention

Joining their Tiger teammates were Addy Doerr and Theor Reid, who both garnered second-team honors this winter.

For Doerr, it marks the second straight season where she ends the winter with an all-region selection after making second team last year.

A senior, Doerr put together 5.6 points per game as well as three rebounds per game. The senior ended her final season shooting 42 percent from the field.

Fellow senior Theo Reid, was second in the state in blocks on the boys side with 87 on the year, averaging more than three per game.

Reid was consistently a double-double threat, posting an average of 9.6 points and 8.5 rebounds per outing.

Along with Doerr, Zora Simpson also was selected to the girls second team all-region list.

Simpson was the Tigers’ leading scorer this season, falling slightly short of 10 points per game average.

Thomas McDowell and Sky Rasmussen both earned all-region honorable mention nods, as well, for the Tigers.

McDowell turned it on over the second half of the season, leading the team with an average of 10.5 points per game.

The senior outside shooter hit nearly 30 percent of his 3-pointers attempted while also averaging five rebounds, two assists and two steals per game.

For Rasmussen, she wraps up her junior season scoring 44 points and swiping over a steal per game.
