At the Episcopal Church the workmen are busy with their preparations for reconstruction and repairs. A dray was hitched on to Parson Allen’s study yesterday morning and it was snatched with vigor and zeal away from its late sanctified articulation over toward the schoolhouse, and there we suppose it will remain until the new part is completed when it will be joined thereto.

On Wednesday evening while Norman, the three-and-a-half-year-old son of J.F. Farrell, on the company of some other urchins, was riding on John Newmham’s dray, the youngster fell off and the dray passed over him. His injuries were at first supposed to be serious, but yesterday he was resting easy. The chances are that he will try to climb onto the cowcatcher of a locomotive in a day or two.

Carson City’s fairest were out in all their glory for the band concert at the Capitol grounds last Sunday. They presented a picture that for beauty and grace could not be excelled in any city of liked size on the continent.

The Board of County Commissioners had a seance yesterday. One of the principal things done was to ratify the acts of the board of equalization. The proposal of Mr. John Griffin to build the Empire and Brunswick road for $28 was accepted with the proviso that he gives the requisite bond. Adjourned.

“Grizzly Dan,” the ex-convict, who was arrested here a week ago for petty larceny and was let off without punishment upon promising to leave the state, is now under arrest in Virginia for some sneak thievery.

One of the most interesting and difficult operations in the history of modern veterinary surgery was performed yesterday at the state prison by Dr. Price, assisted by Dr. Dempsey, of Dayton and Dr. Von Radesdy, in the presence of a large number of physicians. The great mare Mamie F., formerly the property of D. Circe, but now owned by Warden was a successfully operated upon for cancer of the abdomen.

A 70-year-old deer hunter, missing since Tuesday, was found dead today, apparently from a heart attack. Henry Jackson, a World War I veteran, who went into Snow Camp Mountain area with Dan Phillips of Eureka.

In a baseball match between the Golden and Silver Star clubs at the racetrack Saturday the former won the victory by a score of 85 to 33 — the note which lies upon our table adding, “giving the Silver Stars 12 ahead.” We don’t know what that means unless it is that the Goldens allowed the Silvers the odds and beat them.

Lake Tahoe timber. At a meeting of the Lake Bigler (Tahoe) Forestry Commission, held on Monday last, it was resolved to ask the Central Pacific Railroad Company not to sell its land on the shore of the lake until the next legislature. The members of the commission think that the land would be much more valuable to the company in its present condition, as an attraction to tourists.

The written resignation of Mayor Mackey was not accepted, and resolutions were introduced to the effect that he was the right man in the right place and that the board needed him in its business.

Mike Furlong and Gary Dean are tied at 51,000 points apiece in the exciting Nevada Appeal ‘win a bike contest.’ Ernie McGrath has dropped to third with 37,000 points.
