Single-lane closures have begun on U.S. 50 east of Silver Springs in Lyon and Churchill counties as the Nevada Department of Transportation begins roadway repaving.

Two different lane reductions are in effect as NDOT resurfaces about 17 miles of the aging U.S. 50 roadway surface east of the Silver Springs roundabout to the U.S. 50 Alternate Leeteville junction nine miles west of Fallon.

According to NDOT, up to a five-mile section of U.S. 50 will be reduced to a single lane weekdays between 6 a.m.-6 p.m., with pilot cars alternating directions of traffic through the work zone. Speeds will be reduced to as low as 55 mph in the work zone.

U.S. 50 will also be reduced to one lane near Lahontan River campground for bridge replacement. Temporary traffic signals will alternate traffic through the area around the clock through the end of 2024. Speeds will be reduced to 25 m.p.h. approaching the bridge work zone.

NDOT have announced intermittent lane and shoulder closures are anticipated to take place through summer 2025. Motorists should anticipate travel delays of up to 30 minutes and are reminded to drive safely through road work zones.

Oversize-load vehicles will be restricted through the area, with a detour via U.S. 50A in the Fernley area. Oversize load information is available via NVRoads.com.
