The Virginia Truckee Railroad will begin its 49th season on Saturday, May 25, with a schedule of steam and diesel locomotives.

The train ride departs daily from the original Virginia City Depot. The 35-minute ride over the original 1869 route leaves once an hour starting at 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and runs through October.

Later in the season, Steam Engine No. 30 will be introduced, which was built as Chas. McCormick Lumber Co. No. 100 in 1926 by Baldwin in the Philadelphia plant.

Special event trains are being planned, including murder mystery specials and the Pumpkin Express, Candy Cane Express and the Train O’ Lights that sell out each year.

Adult fares are $17-$19 and $8 for children ages 5-12. Kids 4 and under ride free. Tickets are available at the depot or online at www.virginiatruckee.com. Cold drinks and ice cream will be available as well as V&T memorabilia and souvenirs.

The depot and train are also available as a venue for birthday parties, weddings, anniversaries or other special events.
