Galena pulls away for win against South Tahoe

GALENA 62, SOUTH TAHOE 35


Galena outscored South Tahoe 35-6 over the second and third quarters to pull away for the win in girls basketball against South Tahoe. The game was tied 11-11 after one quarter and Galena led 25-15 at halftime before breaking the game open in the third quarter.


"South Tahoe is a lot better than they were last year," Galena Coach Karen Friel said. "In the third quarter we got going a little bit, forced some turnovers."


Kellie Burton had a double double with 18 points and 10 rebounds, Joanna Hixon scored 15 points and Steph Luongo added 11 points for the Grizzlies.


DAYTON 46, INCLINE VILLAGE 29


Dayton Coach Desi Navarro said his team's pressure forced numerous turnovers in the win in girls basketball against Incline Village.


"We outhustled them up and down the floor," Navarro said. "My girls are working extremely hard. We're getting better and better every day."


Cindy Waunbaugh scored 14 points, Jessica Cantwell had 11 points, Rachel Hurt had eight points and Kayla Reese added six points for the Dust Devils.


FRESHMAN


CARSON 30, REED 28


Carson outscored Reed 10-0 in the fourth quarter to pull out the win in the freshman game. Natalie Rogers scored Carson's last six points to help the Senators pull out the win.


Rogers converted a three-point play to pull Carson within 28-27, then hit two free throws to give the Senators a 29-28 lead. Rogers hit another free throw for the final margin.


Kellie Faulkner scored 12 points on four 3-pointers and Rogers added 10 points for Carson.
