A memorial service for Velva Mae Poland, 83, a Carson City resident for the past 33 years, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Kingdom Hall of the Jehovah's Witnesses.

Mrs. Poland died Dec. 6, 2004, at Life Care Center in Reno.

She was born Nov. 8, 1921, in Hastings, Neb., to Jesse and Ida Pearl Davison Fetters.

She married George T. Poland April 26, 1938, in Weiser, Idaho. He preceded her in death.

Before moving to Carson City, she lived in Hermiston, Ore., for 30 years.

Mrs. Poland wrote poetry. She was a Jehovah's Witness.

Among her survivors are her husband and son, Theron, both of Carson City; daughters Rosemary Crowder of Hermiston and Valera Vega of Riverside, Calif.; sisters Bertha Volkman of Portland, Ore., and Zela McJunkin of Ontario, Ore.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Burial will be at Lone Mountain Cemetery.

FitzHenry's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
