A memorial service for Leland A. Monroe, 84, a six-year Carson City resident, will be Aug. 20, at Walton's Chapel of the Valley. For the time call 882-4965.

Mr. Monroe died July 30, 2006, in Carson City. He was born July 30, 1922, in College Place, Wash., to Marcus Monroe and Lena Maude Follett.

He married Lottie Mae Smith on June 15, 1946, in Portland, Ore.

Before moving to Carson City, Mr. Monroe lived in Portland for more than 30 years and in Las Vegas for 10 years.

He was a high school graduate.

Mr. Monroe was a heavy equipment operator for more than 25 years.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was a member of the Good Shepherd Wesleyan Church in Carson City.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, a sister, and a granddaughter.

Among his survivors are his wife of Carson City; sons and daughters-in-law Kerry and Tia Monroe of Reno, and Ken and Manuela Monroe of New Mexico; daughter and son-in-law Sandi and Dennis Smith of Carson City; brother Louie Monroe of Washington; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Cremation will take place at Walton's Sierra Crematory in Carson City.

Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
