A 23-year-old Carson City man was taken by Care Flight helicopter to Washoe Medical Center Sunday afternoon following a single-car accident on Highway 50 West near Spooner Summit.

The man, who was not identified, was traveling eastbound on Highway 50 West at 3:25 p.m. when his black SUV left the roadway, hit a dirt embankment, and became airborne. The car landed on its hood, rotated 180 degrees, and came to a rest in a ditch, according to Nevada Highway Patrol Sgt. Blair Harkleroad.

The eastbound lanes of Highway 50 West were closed for approximately 15 minutes while the helicopter landed on the highway.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation by the Nevada Highway Patrol, and the man's condition was unknown Sunday evening.
