A visitation for Esperanza "Espe" Shafer, 79, a Yerington resident, will be 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Gall Catholic Church, 1343 Centerville Lane in Gardnerville. A rosary will be recited at 1:30 p.m. with a funeral Mass at 2 p.m., with Rev. Paul McCollum officiating.
Mrs. Shafer died Feb. 28, 2007, at South Lyon Medical Center. She was born Dec. 15, 1928, in Quebradillas, Puerto Rico, to Gregorio and Maria Rodriguez.
She graduated from high school in Quebradillas.
She married Clarence R. Shafer on June 17, 1961, in San Francisco.
She received an associate's degree from Ohlone College in Fremont, Calif.
She was a kindergarten aide and administrator of senior center activities. She was a member of St. Gall Catholic Church, and enjoyed the senior dances the senior center put on.
Among her survivors are her husband; son John Shafer; daughter and son-in-law Ann Marie and Kurt Naswall and three grandchildren.
Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home in Yerington is in charge of arrangements.
