Tickets available for Big League clinic

There are still tickets left for the second annual Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada Big League Skills and Drills Baseball Clinic.

The clinic will be held on Saturday, Jan. 12 at the WB Baseball and Softball Training Center in Reno. All of the proceeds from the clinic will go to the Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada.

A clinic for ages 6-11 will be held from 9-11 a.m. and a clinic for ages 12-18 will be held from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Cost for each participant is $100.

Numerous former and current professional players are scheduled to attend, including former Cincinnati Reds great George Foster. Also scheduled to attend are 1999 Carson High graduate Darrell Rasner, a pitcher in the New York Yankees organization; Northern Nevada's Jacob McGee, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays No. 1 pitching prospect; and Evan Longoria, an infielder in the Devil Rays' organization, who's considered to be the nation's top prospect. Scholars and Champions signups scheduled

Scholars and Champions Youth and Adult Football has scheduled signups for the 2008 spring season.

Signups will be held from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, January 12 and Saturday, February 9 at Q's Restaurant. There are three divisions for ages 8-14. Cost per player is $125. League play will be from March 1 to May 18.

Scholars and Champions will also begin a new adult tackle football league this spring. The league is looking to fill four to six teams of 12 to 14 players. Cost is $125 per player. Insurance, officials and game jerseys will be provided.

Silver State Volleyball clinics set

The Silver State Volleyball Academy of Carson City will host two upcoming clinics: One on February 2 and 3 for boys and girls in grades 3-6 and on on February 23 and 24 for girls in grades 6-8.

The Fundamentals Clinic for third through sixth graders focuses on the basic skills of the game of volleyball, while the Middle School Clinic is designed to prepare girls for high school level competition. Little League signups

Carson City Little League will hold signups from 8:30 a.m. to noon January 26 and February 2 at the Carson City Community Center. Youth ages 5-12 are eligible.
