A man who claimed he was a former pitcher for the Cleveland Indians was arrested for third-offense DUI on Tuesday after he allegedly refused to pull over a motorhome following a collision with two cars and a power pole.
Anthony Lacerra, 42, was booked into the Carson City Jail on suspicion of third-offense driving under the influence, driving on a revoked drivers license, failure to maintain travel lane, hit and run, driving with expired registration and driving without insurance.
911 received numerous calls of a motorhome driving erratically on Carson Street about 2:15 p.m. Witnesses reported that the motorhome rear-ended a truck that was waiting for a pedestrian to cross in front of Gottschalks. After the accident, Lacerra allegedly gestured to the other vehicles that he was going to pull into the parking lot, but then he kept driving, striking a power pole, according to police.
He was eventually stopped at Roop Street and Fairview Drive.
Lacerra's girlfriend told police that she was driving, but Trooper J. Jesse informed her that several witnesses put him behind the wheel.
Lacerra also denied driving, stating he can't drive because his license is suspended.
The couple told police they were on their way to Arizona to pick up the girlfriend's son.
A pregnant woman who was in one of the vehicles that was hit began to have contractions and was taken by ambulance to the hospital. Her name and condition are not known.
An Internet search revealed Lacerra pitched for the now-defunct Reno Silver Sox in 1988, which was then a Class A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians organization.
