Ruth Evelyn Rink

Our beloved Ruth Evelyn Rink, 90, passed away on Aug. 17, 2009 at her home in Carson City, Nev., surrounded by her family and friends.

She was born on Dec. 5, 1918, in New Albany, Ind., to Arthur and Comella Klinstiver.

Ruth was raised in New Albany, where she graduated from high school in 1937. After high school, she worked as a secretary in Washington, D.C., and at the Quartermaster Depot in Louisville, Ky. In 1946, she earned her registered nursing degree from Bethesda School of Nursing in Cincinnati.

After graduating from nursing school, she moved west and worked at Seward Hospital in Seward, Alaska, a fish cannery on Kodiak Island, Alaska, and various small hospitals in Colorado, Utah and Nevada. She met and married her first husband in Yerington, Nev., in 1950. In 1955, they moved to Carson City, where she pursued a career at the Nevada State Purchasing Division for 26 years, beginning as a clerk typist and retiring as deputy director in 1982.

Ruth was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Carson City.

Ruth was preceded in death by husband Ernest L. Rink in 1970, husband Dale Rink in 1990, her parents, and her brothers Everett and Charles Klinstiver.

She is survived by son Ernest G. Rink and daughter Dorothy Rink, both of Carson City; granddaughter Kristen Berg, her husband Ryan Berg, great-granddaughter Riley Ann Berg, and former daughter-in- law Carol Hahn, all of Dayton, Nev.; sisters Betty Schrieber of Birmingham, Ala., Pearl Sanders of Louisville and brother Nick Klinstiver of New Albany. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.

The viewing will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27 at FitzHenry's Funeral Home, 3945 Fairview Dr., Carson City, Nevada 89701, (775) 882-2644.

The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 29 at the First United Methodist Church at the corner of Musser and Division streets in Carson City, (775) 882-1436. Light refreshments will follow after the service in the fellowship hall of the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ruth's name to a charity of your choice.
