Eagle Valley 7th graders win title

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE " Eagle Valley Middle School's seventh-grade volleyball team beat Pau Wau Lu 25-18, 22-25 and 17-15 to win the South Tahoe Tournament championship Saturday afternoon.

Eagle Valley compiled a 6-0 record in the event, beating South Tahoe 25-15, 25-10; Whittell 25-16, 25-10; Carson Valley 9-25, 26-24, 15-6; St. Theresa's 25-12, 25-8 and Alder Creek 25-20, 25-17 to reach the championship match.

Of local interest, Carson Middle School was third and Carson Valley Middle School was fifth.

Jennifer Purcell had 13 points, six aces and two kills in the title game, while Skye Simpson had nine points and four digs with Mega Goodale adding nine points and four aces. Savannah Smith finished with three aces, four kills and 22 assists.

In the semifinal win, Smith had 18 assists, two aces and two kills while serving up eight points. Purcell added 12 service points, including two aces, and two kills.

Maria Ayala led the way in the win over St. Theresa's-Tahoe with 10 service points, including six aces. McKenna Mitchell added three aces and two kills and Becka Breuer had four aces and a kill.

Smith produced 17 assists, two aces and two digs in the three-set win over Carson Valley which earned Eagle Valley the No. 1 slot in pool play on Friday.

Malia Tiffer served three aces in EV's straight-set win over South Tahoe in the pool play opener, while Stephanie Camacho had two aces in the victory over Purcell.

Purcell served up 45 points in the two-day event.

Eagle Valley is 12-1.
