Downtown Coin hosting monthly coin collector meeting

Downtown Coin will host its monthly coin club at 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the store on 111 W. Telegraph St., said owner Dan Wilson.

The club, which meets every second Tuesday of the month, has 22 members and is planning for a coin show inside the Carson Nugget in May.

Wilson opened the 1,200 square foot shop seven months ago. He began his career eight years ago after inheriting a coin collection.

"It went from a business out of our extra bedroom at home now to the retail," Wilson said.

Coin club vice president Chuck Price joined after spending 20 years collecting rare Hawaiian coins, which were minted in the late 19th century.

He said the club is trying to start programs with local Boy and Girl Scout troops to help them with coin-related merit badges.
