A 78-year-old Carson City resident died Saturday when his car was hit by a suspected drunk driver, the Nevada State Police said in a media release.

Theodore Daryl Richardson was pronounced dead on scene of the crash at U.S. Highway 50 and College Parkway in Carson City. Edward Frank Barbosa was arrested.

The NSP release said that on Saturday, Jan. 28, at approximately 8:30 p.m., NSP responded to a reported crash at U.S. 50 and College Parkway.

A white Ram 1500 pickup, driven by Barbosa, was traveling westbound on U.S. 50 approaching College Parkway. At the same time, a red Dodge Journey driven by Richardson was traveling northbound on Fairview Drive approaching the intersection of U.S. 50. The Ram failed to yield to the red traffic signal and entered the intersection. The front of the Ram struck the right side of the Dodge.

Barbosa was arrested by the Nevada State Police and booked into the Carson City jail on charges of driving under the influence causing death and failure to obey a traffic control device.
