Ella Kavanagh has been busy since the end of the high school varsity wrestling season.

Kavanagh competed in the Nevada Folkstyle Championship tournament March 9 where she went unbeaten, winning the 100-107 pound weight bracket and claiming the state championship trophy for the season.

The result came after taking first in the 100-pound class at the Rocky Mountain National Rumble at the Reno Events Center.

Last weekend, Kavanagh was back in action at the 2024 Folkstyle Nationals in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Kavanagh took third place after going 4-1 in the 16u 100-pound weight class. Kavangh earned All-American status for her finish in the tournament.


Douglas baseball to host Little League Day

Douglas High School baseball will once again be hosting its Little League Day, April 20 during the Tigers’ home game against McQueen.

All little leaguers who show up wearing a jersey will receive a free hot dog and a drink.


Surber leads Empire Ranch Senior Men

The Empire Ranch Senior Men's Golf Club held an individual stroke play tournament March 20.

Flight A was won by Jeff Surber with a net score of 70. Bill Hetherton took second place with a net 74, followed by Mike Schneider and Gary Raybould tied for third place with net scores of 75.

Flight B was won by Michael Andrade with a net score of 67 ahead of Bill Allen and Ricky Storey tied for second place with net scores of 69. Fourth place was taken by Jeff Gallway with a 73.

Mala Chizek won Flight C with a net 74. Dave Nolte and Robey Willis took second place with scores of 75. Fourth place was taken by Gary Mick with a net 76.

Flight D was won by Marshal McCurdy with a net 76, followed by Ken Cuneo with a net 79 and Bob White with a net 80.

The closest to the pin contest was won by Dick Brownfield on hole 5 and Bill Hetherton on hole 13.
