Obituary: Linnie 'Billie' Hewett

Linnie "Billie" Hewitt died June 15, 2002. She was 95 years old.

Billie was born July 18, 1906 in Elkins, West Virginia to William Shanabarger and Anna Tiffany Shanabarger.

Billie moved to Carson City in 1988, moving here from Lake Isabella, Calif.

She was a homemaker. She was a Catholic. She lived much of her life in Toledo, Ohio.

Billie left home at the age of 14 and is described as the perpetual flapper, who counted Al Capone among her many acquaintances during her zany youth. She also knew Amelia Earhardt.

She enjoyed traveling and has seen much of the U.S. She also enjoyed gardening.

Her beloved husband, Jack Hewitt, passed away in 1970. They were married in 1930. She also had 17 brothers and sisters and was preceded in death by 16 of them.

She is survived by one daughter, Jacqueline, and son-in-law, Herbert Kurtz, of Willits, Calif., and one sister, Edna Becker, also from California. She has six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Billie requested there be no funeral service for her. Inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Toledo, Ohio.

Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of the final arrangements..
