Obituary: Dorothy May Hearn-Brown

A celebration of life for Dorothy May Hearn-Brown, 67, of Carson City will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the United Church of Religious Science, 675 Fairview Drive.

Mrs. Brown died Aug. 16, 2003, at home. She was born Dec. 7, 1935, in Lincoln, Neb., to Hugh and Flossie Hearn.

She was raised in Michigan, where she met and married her first husband James M. Waters. She married Donald C. Brown in 1976 in Arizona.

Mrs. Hearn-Brown worked for many years for the Carson City School District in the Special Education Department. She embraced her Irish heritage. As a young mother, she was very involved in Girl Scouting, Jaycees and Little League. She loved the outdoors, hiking, birding, golfing and working in her garden.

She was preceded in death by her husband Donald C. Brown.

Among her survivors are her daughter and son-in-law Kimberly A. and Gary Vanzyll and grandson Zachary, all of Carson City; daughter Debi K. Waters and grandchildren Ashley and Dylan, all of Sweet Home, Ore.; son James H. Waters and grandson Noah of Bellingham, Wash.; son Ronald "Jerry" Waters of Carson City, daughter and son-in-law Sarah E. and Jesse Rose and grandchildren Maggie Mae and Mary Jane, all of Dayton.

FitzHenry's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
