Dayton wrestling wins own tourney

Stephen Novello and Shawn Ebernickel each won titles to lead the Dayton High wrestling team to the championship of its own Dust Devil Invitational over the weekend.

Novello beat Rite of Passage's Cody Berrett at 145 pounds and Ebernickel won at 140 as Dayton finished with 138 points in the nine-team tournament. The Dust Devils were followed by:

ROP 111; South Tahoe 100; Truckee 92; Silver Stage 72; Wells 70; Incline 69; West Wendover 68; Paradise, Calif., 62.

Other top finishers for Dayton included Chris Thompson (112), Jeremy Stanfield (160) and Tim Torres (171), who all took second. Others winning titles included Silver Stage's Eric Kinny (135) and ROP's Jesse Jephson (heavyweight).
