A funeral for Gary James Downs, 73, a 43-year Minden resident, will be 2 p.m. Monday at Walton's Chapel of the Valley.

Mr. Downs died May 9, 2006, at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center. He was born Nov. 20, 1932, in Blythe, Calif., to Walter A. and Bessie M. Downs.

He married Rose Downs in Georgetown, Texas, on July 3, 1954.

Before moving to Minden, he lived in Temple, Texas.

He was a district ranger for the Nevada State Parks system.

He served in the U.S. Army signal corps during the Korean War.

He belonged to the Free Masons, Douglas County Search and Rescue, the Carson Valley Historical Society and the Douglas County Sheriff's Posse.

He was preceded in death by his brothers Walt and Cletus.

Among his survivors are his wife of Minden; daughter and son-in-law, Diana and Gary Rowe; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Heidi Downs; sisters Betty Wartgow and Loretta Lundergreen; brother Kenneth Downs; brothers-in-law John, Dana and Herby Whaley; four grandchildren, one great-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Burial will be at the Lone Mountain Cemetery following the service.

Memorial donations may be made to the Carson Tahoe Cancer Resource Center, 990 N. Minnesota St., Carson City, NV 89703.
