Nov. 3, 1943 ~ Nov. 19, 2016

John Richard Utt passed away peacefully at his home in the Arizona State Veteran’s Home in Phoenix, AZ, on November 19, 2016. He had suffered from Parkinson’s disease for several years.

Born on November 3, 1943, in Salina, Kansas, he received his B.A. from the University of Nevada. His career carried him though two tours in Viet Nam as a photo-journalist for the Stars and Stripes, and as a public information officer for the City of Austin, Texas. He later went into business for himself as Utt Printing and Advertising in Carson City, together with his son, Chris.

Always an avid sports enthusiast, he coached Little League, and encouraged both his children in sports, particularly in baseball, where they both excelled in collegiate sports.

He leaves behind his son, Chris Utt, daughter Mary (Utt) Madden, sister Julianne (Utt) Dugger, and two grandsons, Bennett Madden and Davis Madden.

Although he will be sorely missed, he is finally at peace.

A burial service will be held at the Nevada State Veterans Memorial Cemetery on December 14, at 1 pm.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in his name to the Arizona State Veteran Home, 4141 North S. Herrara Way, Phoenix, AZ 85012, whose staff, volunteers, and residents have provided him such outstanding care and comfort over these last years, or to a Veteran’s charity of your choice.
